Guwahati, Jan. 18: Guwahati XI emerged victorious over Media XI by seven wickets, while Silchar XI pipped RBI XI by 53 runs to march into the semifinals of the 10th Veteran Inter District Cricket Tournament under way at Latasil ground here today.

In the first match, Media XI, put to bat first, posted a challenging total of 169 runs losing six wickets in 20 overs but could not defend it due to poor fielding as the opponents cruised to 172 for three in 18.2 overs.

Middle order batsmen Kishore Talukdar and Binay Kalita shared an undefeated seventh wicket partnership of 84 runs to take the total to 169 for six. Talukdar remained unbeaten on 51 while Kalita chipped in with 52, facing only 21 balls. Gautam Sarma was the only other batsman to score in double figures. Chinmoy Baruah of Guwahati notched three wickets for 33 runs. Abhijit Das topscored for Guwahati with an unbeaten 54. Opener Samarjeet Neog scored 41, Dhiru Das remained not out on 30 and Gautam Barkakaty contributed a run-a-ball 20.

In the other match, Silchar elected to bat first and scored 172 for eight. In reply, RBI were all out for 119 in 18.4 overs.

Alok Sarkar topscored for Silchar with a quickfire 43 off 28 balls. Sujoy Dutta Roy (25), Madhu Suklabaidya (23) and Niranjan Das (22) were the other notable scorers for the side. Subhrajit Saikia, Naren Baruah and Dipu Das of RBI shared two wickets each.

For RBI, Subhrajit Saikia and Mukul Boro scored 30 runs each while the rest of the batsmen were out for single- digit scores. Joydeep Kar and Sujoy Dutta Roy of Silchar shared three wickets each and Niranjan Das claimed two wickets.

Guwahati XI will play Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd XI and High Court XI meet Silchar XI in two semifinals tomorrow.
