Imphal, Jan. 17: The veterinary and animal husbandry department of the Manipur government today launched an awareness campaign on bird flu in Imphal East and Imphal West districts following an outbreak of avian influenza in West Bengal.
The state government, which had declared Manipur free of bird flu within three months after the outbreak of the H5N1 strain of the influenza in July last year, has put the veterinary department and district administration on high alert.
The state government, however, has not imposed ban on import of poultry and chicken feed from any state, including West Bengal.
The veterinary department of West Bengal has sought “advice” from its Manipur counterpart on how to tackle the outbreak in that state.
