Zangam win

Sivasagar: Hosts Zangam Club, Sivasagar, on Wednesday lifted the 5th Parbati Charan Dutta invitation (under-19) cricket meet trophy defeating Lakhimpur Cricket Academy by 58 runs in the final. Batting first, Zangam were bowled out for 120 in 34.4 overs. Kunal Saikia of Lakhimpur claimed three for 19. In reply, the Lakhimpur boys could score only 62 in 22.5 overs. Samiruddin Ahmed and R. Saikia of Zangam took three wickets each. Kunal Saikia was named the Best Player of the Tournament.

Open chess

Guwahati: Rajib Dhar of Guwahati on Wednesday won the all-Assam Open Chess tournament, organised by the Guwahati Chess Academy, scoring 7.5 points. Y. Dhanbir Singh of Imphal and A.K. Sinha of Reserve Bank of India Sports Club finished second and third.

U-21 soccer

Guwahati: Host district Tinsukia will play Sivasagar in the inaugural match of the 16th DN Singha trophy (under-21) inter-district football championship, to be held at Margherita on January 17. Altogether 13 districts will participate in the meet.

Assam cricket

Mangaldoi: Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre on Wednesday lifted the Dibyajyoti, Maijuddin, Dilip and Deba Sarma All-Assam Cricket Championship Trophy defeating Bud Cricket Club (A) by 33 runs.
