Imphal, Jan. 9: Manipur riders bagged their first gold in the tent-pegging event of the 26th All-India Police Equestrian meet that concluded at the Imphal Pologround today. The host team ended the tournament with a gold and two silver medals.
In the last event of the meet — tent-pegging individual lance — Taorem Pradeep Singh of Manipur Police did exceptionally well to collect 34.5 points for the gold. Kultar Singh of Assam Rifles got the silver scoring 33.5 points while ITBP rider Sasidharan K. collected 33 points to bag the third place.
Border Security Force was the overall Best Team Equestrian winning the Chhatrapati Challenge Trophy with a total medal haul of seven gold, four silver, four bronze and a weightage point of 88.
Punjab Police were the runners-up bagging five gold, five silver, four bronze and a weightage point of 70.
Talwinder Singh of Punjab Police walked away with the Best Rider title winning the Mewar Challenge Trophy. Punjab Police horse Rathore was adjudged the Best Horse. Punjab Police also walked away with the Overall Best Team — Mounted Police Duty team award.
Assam Rifles came third, winning two gold, four silver and five bronze medals with 55 points, Delhi Police were next with six gold, six silver and five bronze and a weightage point of 47.
M. Rachandra, director of Manipur Police Wireless and also the organising secretary of the meet, said all five members of the team — M. Jawan, Pradeep Singh, S. Bimol, H. Abung Khuman and Th. Romen — would be promoted.
