Grandpa killed

Muzaffarnagar, Jan. 8 (PTI): A sixty-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his grandson after he objected to the young man’s plan to marry his girlfriend, police said.

Sitaram was attacked by Gagan in Budhana town here yesterday.

Girl search

New Delhi (PTI): An advocate on Tuesday approached Delhi High Court seeking a directive to police to trace his daughter missing since December 7 last year. A division bench of Justices Vikramjit Sen and P.K. Bhasin asked the police to produce the girl by January 11.

Vessel rescue

Kozhikode (PTI): Five crew members of a cargo vessel that sank near Andhroth island in Lakshadweep were rescued and brought ashore by a coast guard team on Tuesday. The vessel, M.V. Rovolt Vijay, carrying stone and cement to Lakshadweep, developed a snag and began sinking two days ago.

Hawala case

New Delhi (PTI): A stud farm owner facing allegations of involvement in hawala operations has moved Bombay High Court to get his passport back. Hasan Ali Khan’s application will be heard on February 4.

Dalit torture

Kanpur (PTI): A Dalit man was allegedly beaten up and abused by a priest for entering a temple in Kanpur district, police said. Shailendra Tiwari, the priest at the Mahadev temple in KDA Colony, stopped Sudhir Naga and used “abusive language” when he tried to enter the temple on Monday night.

Slum murder

Mumbai (PTI): A 35-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, acquitted recently of murdering a well-known doctor, was shot dead by an unidentified person, police said. Dhirendrakumar alias Bhanju Madhu Yadav was found dead inside a slum in suburban Kandivali late on Monday evening with bullet injuries in his chest, neck and shoulder. The motive for the attack is not known.
