Medical corps into 245th year

Members of the Army Medical Corps (AMC) celebrated their 244th anniversary on January 1 with a special sainik sammelan, barakhana and prayer service.

Messages from the chief of the army staff, director general of medical services and Lt Gen. Deepak Raj, the general-officer-commanding of the Trishakti Corps, were read out. Personnel of the AMC rededicated themselves to “excel in patient care in peace and war”.

A social gathering was organised in the evening which was attended by Lt Gen. Raj. Dignitaries from Indian Air Force and the BSF as well as eminent doctors from Siliguri were also present.

lThe Sappers Golf Cup Tournament was played on December 30 at the Sukna Military Station. More than 40 golfers from the army, air force, the BSF, ex-servicemen and a number of civilians participated in the tournament. Lt Gen. Raj gave away the prizes.

The list of individual winners included Lt Col D. Chaturvedi, who won the Sappers Cup and Brig. Rajesh Kamran, who won the Veteran’s Trophy. The Longest Drive was won by Col G.S. Puri, Closest to Pin was won by Col V.S. Mall, and Ladies Putting winners were Madhavi Jaichandran and Ahuja.

lA musical programme by the troupe ‘U’ & ‘I’ from Calcutta was conducted for all personnel and their families at the defence auditoriums in Sukna, Sevok and Gangtok on December 27 and 28.
