Tenant torment

Howrah, Jan. 5: Rajkumar Sahu, who assaulted tenant Bindu Upadhyay for refusing entry to the terrace adjoining her flat for a late-night drinking session, was arrested today.

Rajkumar was charged with grievously hurting the woman who lived alone with her children, keeping her under wrongful confinement and threatening and assaulting her on December 29 and 31. But he was released on bail.

Golabari police had initially advised Bindu to “settle the dispute” with Rajkumar, his brother Manoj and father Ashrafilal. The woman, whose engineer husband works in Mumbai, today said she was scared she might be harassed again.

Nandi arrest

Tamluk: Two Bhoomi Uchchhed Pratirodh Committee supporters were held in Nandigram on Saturday on charges of murder and looting. Parimal Kar, 38, and Sheikh Khusnabi, 40, have been remanded in a fortnight’s police custody.

SSKM goon

Calcutta: An extortionist was arrested from SSKM Hospital. Papu Mallick, who was carrying a gun, was held near the Group D quarters.

Calcutta: A truck knocked down Kajal Mondal, 32, from his motorbike on Central Avenue on Saturday night.
