Mind games at B-school annual gala

Day One of Intaglio, the annual B-school meet of IIM Calcutta, organised in association with The Telegraph, saw students from across the globe get cracking on problems in operations, marketing, systems, strategy and finance.

Modulus, the data modelling game organised in association with Capgemini, attracted 391 teams, including those from IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, the IITs, International School of Business, Faculty of Management Studies and Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar.

The international participants in Modulus included National University of Singapore, Asian School for Business Management, ESCP-EAP, Oklahoma State University and Rice University. The event also saw corporate participation in the form of PricewaterhouseCoopers, KPMG, Infosys, Deutsche Bank, Oracle, ICICI Bank and Modelytics Inc.

“The theme this year was structured products focusing on sports. The participants had to build models of valuation and risks for sports clubs,” said Sarfaraz Khimani, one of the event coordinators. Sub-Zero, a home team, came first, followed by Eragon from IIM Bangalore and The Idiots, also from IIM Calcutta.

Friday also saw a seminar on Competitive Policy in India, conducted by a UK-based consultant, and a workshop conducted by Contact Singapore, a government of Singapore organisation.

The other event of the day was a strategy-based case study contest that saw participation of more than 750 students.
