Biman backs Buddha drive

Calcutta, Jan. 4: CPM state secretary Biman Bose today supported the chief minister’s resolve to industrialise Bengal despite “the Opposition’s efforts to derail it”.

“The people’s mandate in the last Assembly polls was in favour of industrialisation,” he told a meeting of jute mill workers.

On the nearly 10,000-vote drop in the CPM’s victory margin at Balagarh, Bose said: “The people’s mood cannot be judged in a byelection.”

Tram baby

A newborn boy was found abandoned in a tram tonight.

Tram company employees saw the child, wrapped in a towel, at the Ballygunge depot. Police said the tram arrived there from Kalighat around 9.
