Bullet hits boy in clash

Malda, Dec. 27: Silu Sheikh, a student of Class V, was shot at in a clash between villagers of Sujapur and some goons in the Kaliachak police station area on Thursday morning.

Seven villagers were also injured in the clash. The Rapid Action Force brought the situation under control.


Talent hunt

Gangtok: Swar Sikkim has organised Bal Tara Geet Pratiyogita, a singing competition for children aged between seven and 15. The winner will get Rs 20,000 as a fixed deposit.


Electrocuted

Malda: Balaram Tudu and his wife Sona Murmu were electrocuted on Wednesday evening by a high-tension power line which snapped and fell on a field. The two were returning home from the market at Bodang village in Gajole.


BSF steps

Islampur: B.S. Rana, the DIG of the Raiganj sector of the BSF, has assured villagers of Belgachi on Thursday that steps would be taken against two jawans who had allegedly molested a woman there on Wednesday.


New store

Siliguri: Peter England opened a showroom on Sevoke Road on Wednesday. Master franchisee Peanuts Inc. said it plans to open five to seven such stores in the region.


Bus accident

Islampur: Fifteen passengers of a Calcutta-bound bus from Siliguri were injured when it rammed into a truck parked along NH31 at Kanki on Wednesday.
