Manavjit bags gold

Jaipur: World Champion Manavjit Singh has won gold in the trap event and enabled Punjab to clinch the team championship in the National Shooting Championship.

Manavjit scored 138 points out of 150 in the final round while Birendeep Sodhi was just a score behind to win the silver. The bronze went to Mansher Singh (132).

Army (320) and Delhi (319) won the silver and bronze respectively.

Ace shooter Mairaj of Chattisgarh won the men’s gold in skeet event securing 142 points. He edged out A.D. Peoples, by three points.

Meanwhile, Man Singh, who won the junior skeet event, pocketed bronze medal with a total of 136.

In the women’s event, while Man Singh bagged the bronze in junior skeet event. Seema Tomar emerged champion while Shagun Choudhary (80) and Varsha Tomar (69) won the silver and bronze respectively.

Manavjit Singh Sandhu won the country's highest sporting honour Ś the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna this year.

Manavjit overshadowed the feats of ace golfer Jeev Milkha Singh and star cricketer Rahul Dravid.        (PTI)
