Fatal job race

Bikaner, Dec. 26 (PTI): A young man running a 1500 m race for a railway police job died midway today.

Kirori Lal Meena, 25, was among 1000 candidates participating in the test for a Group D post. Meena collapsed just after completing the third lap and a medical team declared him dead.

House fire

Shimla (PTI): Three members of a family, including a teenager, were killed and four suffered burn injuries in a fire in a house. A short circuit is suspected to be the reason behind the fire.

Mine firing

Satna (PTI): Labourers protesting against the sacking of 50 of their colleagues were involved in a gun fight with the contractor’s men at a limestone mine in Sagmania in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. Eight labourers were injured in the firing. The cement factory management, with which the mine is associated, had imposed a ban on the recruitment of new labourers employed by the contractor. When the situation went out of control, both the sides opened fire.

Encounter

Warangal (PTI): Three persons accused in the kidnap and murder of a young girl were killed in an encounter with police here on Wednesday. As a part of the probe, the trio were taken to the place where they had killed the girl and dumped her body.

Grave case

Hyderabad (PTI): A case has been registered against a documentary production unit featuring actress Nandita Das for trying to shoot in a graveyard here. The film crew had tried to shoot the scene without obtaining a written permission from the custodian of the graveyard land.

Internship

New Delhi (PTI): The department of economic affairs has formulated an internship programme for young scholars. The internship would be for a period of two months. The successful candidates would be paid Rs 5,000 a month as token remuneration at the end of the internship.
