Dashed by truck, pedestrian dies

A 38-year old man, Subrata Das, was run over by a speeding truck near BT College, in Madhyamgram, on the northern fringes of the city, on Tuesday. Police said Das was dashed from behind while he was crossing the road with his friend. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared dead. The truck has been impounded but the driver fled.

Womanís body on train

Government Railway Police (GRP) jawans recovered the body of an unidentified woman from a Lakshmikantapur local at Sealdah South section on Tuesday. GRP sources said the woman was about 40 years old. Her body, found under a seat, was sent for post-mortem.

Dean takes over

Dipak Kumar De has become the new dean of the faculty of veterinary and animal sciences at West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, Belgachhia. De has taken over charge from Monday.

Fake batteries

Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights (EIPR), along with officers of New Market police station, conducted raids on two places on Moti Sil Street late on Monday and seized fake batteries. Police said three persons were arrested in this connection.
