Roy is BHA president

J.B. Roy was named the Bengal Hockey Association (BHA) president after a meeting on Monday. He replaced Dinesh Bajpai, who resigned from the post for personal reasons. According to BHA secretary Gurbux Singh, Roy — the younger brother of Sahara group chief Subrata Roy — is the 18th president of the association.

Gagan ousts top seed

Gagan Verma upset top seed Abhishek Jha 4&3 on Monday to set up a title clash with Sri Lankan Mithun Perera in the Goodricke Eastern India Amateur Golf Championship at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club course. The Lankan upset Jasjeet Singh 6&4.

Partnership Cup

Howrah1 will meet Goldpark in the final of The Telegraph Partnership Cup on Thursday. Howrah1 beat LakeTown2 5-4 via the tie-breaker, while Goldpark thrashed Hazra2 5-0 in the semi-finals on Monday.

Table tennis

The South Calcutta District Table Tennis Association will organise the Bishwadeep Bhattacharya Memorial meet from January 5 at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium. The age-group tournament will be a four-day affair.
