Abid for change in format

Calcutta: Former Test cricketer Abid Ali feels the Ranji format needs an immediate change to help spot and nurture talent.

“The Ranji format needs a change. This system is not helping spot talent. I am sorry to say that there are many Ranji players who are not skilled enough to play the game.

“The Board should change the system and the tournament should be played on a home and away basis over a six month period. It will help spot talent and groom them,” Ali said at the Eden on Monday.

The 66-year old, who is the head coach of the visiting Andhra team got nostalgic about the Eden. “I last played here back in 1972. I have some fond memories here,” an emotional Ali said.

“Eden is always a special place to visit… It’s getting better and better…,” he said.
