Ahmedabad, Dec. 24: The Congress tally in Gujarat may have gone up from 51 in 2002 to 59 yesterday, but in terms of Lok Sabha seats it would be down by five.
Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said had the Gujarat and general elections been held simultaneously, the party s tally in the Lok Sabha would have come down to seven from 12 in 2004.
The Congress vote share has gone down by 3 per cent.
Going by yesterdays results, alarm bells are ringing for Lok Sabha MPs Jivabhai Patel (Mehsana), Virji Dhumra (Amreli), Virkam Maadam (Jamnagar), Harisinh Chavda (Banaskanth) and Jasabhai (Junagadh). In the last Lok Sabha election, the Congress had won these seats with a comfortable margin.
