CPI slams ‘surrender’

Krishnagar, Dec. 24: The CPI today accused Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s government of giving in to fundamentalists by not letting Taslima Nasreen come back to Calcutta.

“Buddhababu’s government has surrendered to fundamentalist forces by first sending Taslima to Rajasthan and not allowing her to return now to keep some people happy,” CPI state secretary Manju Kumar Majumdar said.

He was in Krishnagar, 85km from Calcutta, to attend the party’s state conference.

The party also asked the government to withdraw its slogan ‘Agriculture our base, industry our future’. Majumdar said it had triggered “an agri-culture-industry tussle”.
