Jaya lauds victory

Chennai, Dec. 23: Jayalalithaa today appeared to take a step closer to the BJP by saying Narendra Modi’s victory had brought hope to most Indians.

The ADMK leader, so far ambiguous about renewing her BJP ties, called up Modi to congratulate him. She then sent him a eulogistic letter, copies of which were released to the media.

“Your spectacular victory has brought hope and cheer to the vast majority of people in this nation, who now believe that all is not lost and that India can still be saved from the clutches of the unscrupulous power mongers,” the former chief minister wrote.

Jayalalithaa had earlier played a leading role in the birth of the third front Ś the United National Progressive Alliance Ś which was formed at her residence before the July presidential polls.

Since then, she has been distancing herself from the front, raising speculation she might draw nearer the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.
