Left renews attack on nuclear deal

New Delhi, Dec. 23: The Left today asked the Congress to rethink the Indo-US nuclear deal and go for a “mid-course correction” of its economic policies to check the resurgence of “communal fascism”.

In a statement issued after the BJP’s victory in Gujarat, the CPM politburo said the results showed that where the impact of communal politics was deep, electoral efforts were not sufficient to defeat communal forces.

“What is required is a determined and uncompromising struggle against the communal ideology of Hindutva and the capacity to launch sustained struggles of all sections of the people who suffered from the right-wing economic policies of the Modi government,” the politburo statement said.

The CPI identified areas where the Congress needed to introspect.

“The Congress should do some serious introspection over its policies, particularly on the economic front,” CPI secretary D. Raja told The Telegraph over the phone from Tirupati.

“It should also rethink the Indo-US nuclear deal and carry out mid-course correction of its policies,” the CPI leader added.

Raja also said secular forces must unite to keep communal forces at bay.

“The secular forces should draw proper lessons from the Gujarat verdict as the results show that they will have to unitedly intensify the struggle against communal fascism,” Raja said.
