Bloc salvo at CPM before rally

Calcutta, Dec. 22: On the eve of his public meeting in Nandigram, Forward Bloc veteran Ashok Ghosh trained guns on the CPM for hatching a “capitalist conspiracy”.

“A large chunk of the CPM has taken to appeasing capitalists. Reliance, the Tatas and Salims are being invited. A big conspiracy has been hatched,’’ the Bloc state secretary said.

The report prepared by the Bloc at its state council meeting held in Bolpur between December 8 and 10 said as much. It was sent to all Left Front partners, including the CPM.

The Bloc, RSP and the CPI had held the CPM “entirely responsible” for the violence in Nandigram.

Ghosh today warned of a “prolonged agitation against the creation of special economic zones, entry of big capital in retail and the government’s move to grab farmers’ land”.

He also spoke about “lumpen cadres harassing people with police help”.

The Bloc meeting at the college ground tomorrow would be held three days before the chief minister addresses a gathering 500m away.

A Nandigram woman who was admitted to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital in March with a suspected bullet wound in her spinal cord died today. Bidyutlata Maity, 50, was suffering from septicaemia.
