The Teesta, Torsha and Mahananda in north Bengal and Ajoy, Saraswati, Damodar, Rupnarayan and Matla in the south will be cleaned next year.
Sarkar said: My department will announce the guidelines for the clean-up after talks with the municipalities and panchayats. A meeting with municipality and panchayat chiefs has been called in the first week of January .
Almost all municipalities took part in the Ganga drive that will end this month, said Biswajit Mukherjee of the high court-appointed panel to monitor pollution in the river.
