Liberal laws sought

Bhubaneswar, Dec. 20 (PTI): Advocating a balance between the green cover and the green currency, Supreme Court judge Arijit Pasayat favoured a liberal view on existing environmental laws.

Justice Pasayat, also a members of the apex court’s environment and forest bench, came down heavily on those who focus “too much” on protection of forest and wildlife and in the process “harm” the society at large.

“Two weeks back we were told there are more than 300 reserve forest in the country, but hardly 20 or 25 of them deserve to be called so,” he said.
