Shoaib on a different pitch
Shoaib Akhtar

The Rawalpindi Express will be firing on a different pitch this Saturday. No, he has not confirmed a Bollywood signing yet, but he will make an appearance on Sahara One’s show Jjhoom India at 9pm. “He was jittery about coming on camera after learning he has to sing. But he is such a good singer,” says a channel spokesperson. The cricketer-turned-crooner, whose middle name is controversy, went on to sing three tracks, one of them being the Kishore Kumar hit Kuchh to log kahenge. No surprises there about the choice!

Mahesh Bhatt, one of the judges on the show, greeted him saying: “Aap Hindustan mein ho ya main Lahore mein hoon?”. Bhatt, it was later revealed, had offered him Shiney Ahuja’s role in Gangster, which he had refused for cricket commitments.

Shoaib chose Roshni Chopra’s rendition of Parineeta’s Kaisi paheli as the best performance of the day and gifted her an autographed bat. But he ducked when asked to name his favourite heroine.
