Massacre probe

Midnapore, Dec. 19: A West Midnapore district judge today ordered the re-examination of eight witnesses in connection with the Chhoto Angaria case.

CPM leaders Tapan Ghosh and Sukur Ali have been charged with murder, conspiracy and destroying evidence in the alleged massacre of Trinamul Congress supporters in 2001. The CBI counsel said the witnesses had to be examined afresh in the presence of the prime accused.

Rickshaw baby

Calcutta: A newborn was found abandoned on a rickshaw in Dum Dum late on Wednesday night. Police took the boy, wrapped in a cloth, to hospital.

Gorkhaland

Calcutta: GNLF leader Shanta Chhetri has warned of a fresh Gorkhaland agitation if the Centre fails to pass the bill conferring Sixth Schedule status on the hills by February. She tabled a private bill in the Assembly demanding its speedy passage in Delhi.
