NTPC top job

New Delhi, Dec 18: Chandan Roy, director (operations) of ntpc Ltd, has been chosen by a government panel to head the nation’s largest power generator from May 1 next year, when incumbent Thyagrajan Sankarlingam retires. The Public Enterprise Selection Board yesterday sent to the power ministry names of two candidates with Roy as its first choice.

UK banks

London, Dec 18: The European Central Bank and Bank of England flooded money markets with funds today as the UK central bank chief warned of a possible “self-reinforcing” downward spiral in credit.

Ranbaxy offer

Mumbai, Dec 18: Ranbaxy Laboratories has revised the schedule of its open offer to the shareholders of Zenotech Laboratories Ltd. The open offer will now commence on December 24 and close on January 15, while the specified date remains unchanged at October 26.

Direct tax

New Delhi, Dec 18: The government’s coffers increased by 42.50 per cent at Rs 1,64,407 crore from direct taxes till December 15 on account of buoyancy in the overall economy, booming stock markets and rising personal incomes.

NDC meet

New Delhi, Dec 18: The National Development Council (NDC) will tomorrow consider the Eleventh Five-Year Plan that seeks to raise economic growth rate to 9 per cent from 7.6 per cent in the last plan.
