Deal for estates
The CMDA on Monday signed an MoU with Merlin Group for building a residential estate and a commercial centre on EM Bypass. Municipal affairs minister Asok Bhattacharya said the cost has been estimated at Rs 200 crore.
Mishap
Pankaj Jha, 23, was hit by an autorickshaw on CR Avenue on Monday afternoon. The Girish Park resident was taken to Medical College and Hospital with multiple injuries. The autorickshaw was impounded and the driver arrested.
Murder arrest
Bapi Bose, 32, a promoter in Madhyamgram, was arrested on Monday on charges of killing land broker Sufal Roy. Police said Sufal had come to Bapi’s house to realise his dues. “Bapi was not present but Sufal started beating up his wife. When Bapi returned and saw his wife being beaten up, he hit Sufal with a log of firewood,” said an officer. Bapi’s wife Munmun has been admitted to hospital.
Factory killing
Liakat Ali, a contract labourer at Anglo India Jute Mill, in Barrackpore, was arrested on Monday for allegedly stabbing his supervisor Akhter Ali. Police said an altercation broke out between the two over allotment of duty.
