Imphal, Nov. 22: Maisnam Suman, the Class X student of Little Flower School who was found gagged with hands tied up inside the students’ toilet on Monday, today confessed that she enacted the incident to skip the selection test for the High School Leaving Certificate examination.
“I gagged and tied myself up to skip the mathematics test. I took the drastic step as my parents would pressure me to excel. I apologise to my school, teachers and parents. I will not do such things again,” Suman, a resident of Keishamthong in Imphal West, confessed in front of the school authorities and her teachers.
On Monday, some students found her inside the toilet with hands tied at the back, eyes blindfolded and mouth sealed with cellotape. That day, Suman admitted to have entered the toilet after the morning assembly but said she did not remember anything after that.
The incident drew the attention of parents, student groups and women’s organisations, who suspected foul play against her. The 16-year-old, however, refused to recount how she tied herself up in the toilet.
“My parents insisted that I must do well. I feared that I could fail in the examination. I did it to skip the test,” she said. Suman was to appear for the mathematics paper on Monday, the first day of the selection test.
As she was week in mathematics, she evaded the test by resorting to dramatics. Suman blamed mounting pressure from her parents for her lack of concentration.
