Snatcher in cop net
Subir Mullick, 22, a resident of Atghara, in Rajarhat, and two associates were arrested on Tuesday night for involvement in over a dozen cases of snatching in Lake Town, Salt Lake and Baguiati. Supratim Sarkar, the superintendent of police (North 24-Parganas), said Mullick, a Higher Secondary dropout, came from a well-to-do family. Eleven mobile handsets, Rs 55,000 in cash and gold bars worth Rs 50,000 were seized from him.
Baby in drain
A baby, about a week old and wrapped in white shawl, was found abandoned in a dry drain near Star Iron Works, off Liluah Road, on Wednesday morning. The baby lay in the drain till cops from Bally police station came and took it to TL Jaiswal Hospital. Doctors there declared the baby dead.
Bail granted
Partha Sarathi Sengupta, a journalist, was granted bail by Alipore court on Wednesday. Sengupta was arrested on September 17 for the unnatural death of his mother Manju Sengupta at her Kasba home.
