Set ablaze, boy dies

Rajkot, Nov. 20 (PTI): A teenaged boy who was allegedly set ablaze by his friend last evening died at the civil hospital here this morning, police said.

Nishant Parmar, 15, had told the police he had an argument with Vinod Arya, who slapped him in rage in Anandnagar last evening. Then Arya took out a bottle of kerosene from his pocket and poured it on Parmar and set him ablaze, police said, adding that the victim then started running to his home and collapsed at the doorsteps.

Gang held

Bangalore (PTI): A nine-member gang, accused of robberies amounting to Rs 1.5 crore, has been arrested by police who recovered weapons and three vehicles from them.

Architect

Mumbai (PTI): A 30-year-old architect working in a telecom firm in Bangalore has been arrested for allegedly sending an air hostess an email containing “obscene” pictures of her. R. Shashikaran had met the 22-year-old Kingfisher employee, at a function in Bangalore 18 months ago and had an extra-marital affair with her.

ATM robbery

Srinagar (PTI): A bank ATM counter was robbed of Rs 14 lakh here on Monday night. Police suspect an insider job since only bank employees and those associated with the maintenance of the money dispensing machines are familiar with the digital codes used to operate the ATMs.

Jumbo tribute

Guruvayur (PTI): Elephants of the Sri Krishna temple here were taken in a procession to pay tribute to Guruvayur Kesavan on his 31st death anniversary on Tuesday. The animals, stood before the statue of Kesavan at the temple for a while, raised their trunks and “paid floral tributes”.
