Bagdogra flight cancelled
Air India’s Calcutta-Bagdogra flight on Tuesday afternoon was cancelled because of late arrival of aircraft from Mumbai to Calcutta. An airline official said the flight was scheduled to take off at 2pm with 70 passengers and crew on board. However, the aircraft which comes from Mumbai and then proceeds to Bagdogra arrived late. It could not take off for Bagdogra due to sunset limitations there. Most passengers were accommodated on other flights.
Cyclist hit and killed
A cyclist was killed after being hit by a speeding trailer on Kona Expressway on Tuesday morning. Police said the victim, who is yet to be identified, was a daily wage labourer. The police intercepted the trailer at the toll plaza and arrested the driver. Later, local residents blocked the road for 45 minutes, protesting the rising count of fatal accidents on the stretch.
Molest arrest
Anil Sarkar, 46, was arrested from Vidyasagar Park, in the Regent Park area, on Tuesday for molesting a 27-year-old mentally challenged woman on Monday night. Police said the victim, who is also deaf and mute, was alone when Sarkar entered her home. The arrest was made on a complaint by the victim’s mother.
Office gutted
A first-floor office of Lexpotex India Ltd was gutted in a fire that broke out on Elgin Road late on Monday. Police said a snag in the air-conditioner caused the blaze. No injury was reported.
Knocked down
Anima Nath, 72, was seriously injured after being knocked down by a private bus on route 234 on Gariahat Road, near Jodhpur Park, on Tuesday afternoon. Police said Anima, a resident of Selimpur, was rushed to MR Bangur Hospital, where her condition is said to be stable. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was taken into custody.
