Nothing gives away your age like your hands. Manicure sets are easily available in the market but check for the following items before picking up one. Beautician Sabina Yah shares a few tips on how to shop right for manicure sets. Remember to sterilise all the tools in your manicure set after purchase. Check whether the set has a file; it helps to keep your nails in shape. Also, keep the file close at hand — next to the bed is a good place — you will use it more often if it’s in the line of sight. Use a pusher to push back the cuticles. Or invest in cuticle oil, which is quite popular nowadays. This softens the cuticles enough to remove the extra soft flesh easily. Buy a nail hardener along with your manicure set. Constant contact with water can soften the hands and chip the nails. The transparent hardener prevents nail-breaking. If your fingers have had nail polish on for too long, it’s time for a nail upgrade. Make them stronger by removing old nail polish before it gets chipped and allow your nails to breathe easy. Hands have few oil glands so its important to keep them moisturised. Plus, the skin of the hands is very thin and delicate and prone to early wrinkling. There’s nothing better than hungry pores absorbing some moisturiser. Lastly, touch up your pampered paws with a coat of nail polish. Don’t be afraid to try out darker shades if your skin is light.
