Festive rush on trains

Jamshedpur, Nov. 13: With barely a day left for Chhath, Tatanagar railway station is witnessing serpentine queues of passengers to Bihar, where the festival is prominent.

Railway sources said the rush for Bihar-bound trains was high this year, too.

“The situation is almost the same as the previous years. The Tata-Patna South Bihar, the Tata-Chapra and Tata-Danapur trains are witnessing huge rush. The waiting list is increasing drastically,” said A. Sen, the chief reservation officer at Tatanagar station.

The waiting list has touched 165 for the South Bihar Express, while it has crossed 200 for Tata-Chapra. Two extra bogies have been attached to the Tata-Patna and one to the Tata-Chapra. “In all probability, more extra coaches would be added tomorrow also,” added Sen.

The scene was not too different at the markets with purchases for Chhath puja ingredients, some of which are being sold for more. Reportedly, plots on the riverbanks are also being sold at a premium. “It is a general trend for people to book a plot near the ghat and sell it at a premium,” said a Bistupur resident.
