Trader killed in bike mishap

Ranchi, Nov. 13: A businessman of Harmu Housing Colony died in a road accident at Kartik Oraon Chowk on Harmu bypass road last night.

Identified as Prahlad Singh Gupta (45), he was driving around a roundabout on his motorcycle when another speeding motorcycle rammed into him at an right angle.

Police took the body of the victim to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences to conduct post-mortem examination. An official at Argora police station said the person riding the other motorcycle sustained injury in the accident.

“We have admitted the rider of the other motorcycle who was critically injured. We are clueless about his identity as we do have any information about his background,” the official added.

A mechanic, Mohammed Saqir, who has a shop near the roundabout, said the both the motorcycles were badly damaged in the incident.

“The police have parked the two-wheelers in a nearby house. The condition of the victim’s motorcycle is so bad that no one can even drive it up to the nearby Argora police station. The gear box and the rim of the motorcycle’s front tyre bore the brunt of the dam- age in the collision,” he added.

An FIR has been lodged in this connection. Sources said that it was the same spot where a journalist associated with a local Hindi newspaper had died in an accident about two years ago.

Local residents said Harmu bypass road is extremely prone to accidents.

“The road does not have any speedbreaker. After sunset, the streetlights also do not function properly, making it extremely hazardous for commuters,” said one Mohammed Firoz, a resident of Imli Chowk.
