Calcutta: Rana Chowdhury was drafted into Bengal’s Ranji Trophy squad as the 15th member after opener Amitava Chakraborty injured his hamstring during a practice tie at the Eden on Sunday.

Amitava will remain with the team despite being ruled out for the tie against Baroda. “An MRI will be done on Monday and Amitava will join the squad on Wednesday… chief selector Arup Bhattacharya will also join us in Baroda on the same day,” Bengal manager Samir Dasgupta said.

In Sunday’s practice match, it was batsmen versus bowlers. Anustup Majumdar scored a hundred and captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla also made a useful contribution with the bat.

The match was also organised to try out the newly laid track for the India-Pakistan Test commencing on November 30.

The Bengal squad leaves for Vadodara on Monday morning.
