Threat details with sleuths

CBI officials on Monday called on inspector-general (enforcement branch) Nazrul Islam in his office and asked him about the threats by policemen to Sadique Hussain, a witness to the marriage of Rizwanur Rahman and Priyanka Todi.

Islam told the officials how sub-inspector Krishnendu Das had called up Sadique when he came to meet him at Bhabani Bhavan on September 18. When Islam, who took the call, revealed his identity, Das said that he was carrying out the orders of his bosses.

The CBI officials also collected a note by Rizwanur, detailing his harassment by the police and the Todis, from Sujato Bhadra of Association for Protection of Democratic Rights. The investigators spoke to Ashok Todi’s business associate Kailash Bundia.

The home secretary declared during the day that Rizwanur and Priyanka’s cellphones were not tapped.
