Guwahati, Nov. 1: Having learnt a lesson from the India-England one-dayer last year, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) is making sure that there are no glitches during the eagerly-awaited India-Pakistan match at the Nehru Stadium on November 5.
From a sporting pitch to a green and fast outfield, enough field cover and an audible and efficient public address system, the ACA is putting in place everything to ensure a good match for both the players and fans.
The chairman of the field and pitch committee, Rupkamal Kakati, told The Telegraph that his team has not left any stone unturned to prepare a sporting pitch and outfield.
“We started work by mid-August and from the reactions of those who have inspected the field and pitch, it is by far the best we have had,” Kakati said.
“This time we have taken extra care to ensure there is no complaint about the outfield, thanks to the hard work put in by the committee members,” he said.
Kakati, a college teacher, also said that they are keeping in touch with the meteorological office for a regular update on weather conditions. “We will review the conditions on November 3. We have requisitioned pitch and field covers from all nearby districts to ensure that the playing area remains fit for the match even if it rains,” he said, adding that loudspeakers have already been installed in all the 12 stadium gates to keep the spectators posted about the latest developments. “We have engaged two announcers for the purpose,” he added.
The committee members included curator Sunil Baruah, agricultural scientists Ratul Das, Imdad Hussain, Pradip Das, Borsomongol Baruah.
Baruah said that the wicket would be the best prepared by him since 1983, Hussain on the other hand said that 22 workers have been working and 22 trucks of soil have been used for the outfield.
