A glimpse of Kiran’s. Picture by Rashbehari Das

With her kids now grown up, designer Kiran Prakash is set to give her passion for fashion full-time attention. Her small set-up on Middleton Row was packed away and Kiran’s, on the first floor of Loudon Tower, 8/3 Loudon Street, launched three years ago.

“There might be competition and a boutique on every other lane. But my clothes have a distinct style. So there is no fear of losing customer base,” says a confident Kiran, who also plans to take her fashion brand to Bangalore and Mumbai.

The decor

The 500-sq-ft interiors look swank with marble and red tile flooring. Pastel walls, plane and textured, add to the effect. Then there are brick red walls inlaid with sketches — the kind fashion designers make. Wrought iron seaters and a plush sofa complete the look.

The collection

Kiran’s is home to saris, suits, trousers, capris and tunics. The fabric story revolves mostly around georgette, crepe and cotton. Kiran focuses on earthy tones and pastels.

“Festive or not, whatever the occasion, white is always a fast mover with me,” says Kiran. The clothes are light on embellishment. “The emphasis is on cuts and silhouettes,” points out Kiran.

Ready-to-wear saris with gota, sequin, aari and stonework jostle for attention. Here colours like lime green, off-white and pink stand out. Floral patterns are seen in abundance. Then there are lehngas teamed with halter necks and corsets.

Suits in layered chiffon and georgette are Westernised — some with spaghetti straps, some honey-combed on the bust to lend a bikini shape. Brocade and sequined trousers are suitable for evenings out.

The saris and suits come for Rs 2,000-plus. The tunics and skirts start at Rs 1,500.
