Four in net for shooting fishseller

A 50-year-old fishseller was shot by a gang of four while he was returning home to South Rainagar, near Brahmapur, on Wednesday night. Sameer Saha died at Chittaranjan Hospital on Thursday morning.

Four suspects have been arrested.

Praveen Kumar, the superintendent of police (South 24-Parganas), said: “Two firearms and two rounds of ammunition have been seized. The motorcycle on which the assailants had come has been impounded.”

Saha was cycling home after feeding fish in his pond when he was shot near Sardarpara More. The criminals shot thrice, one bullet piercing his stomach.

“We heard about the incident around 11pm and took him to MR Bangur Hospital, from where he was referred to Chittaranjan Hospital. He died at 9am today,” said Sameer’s brother Bishnu.

Police are clueless about the motive of the murder.

Saha is survived by wife Anjali, son Sujoy, 18, who studies engineering in Chennai, and daughter Sukanya, 14.
