Shame kills tutor

Krishnagar, Oct. 25: A 45-year-old private tutor today hanged himself after being humiliated by villagers for allegedly having an affair with a student half his age.

Some youths claimed to have caught Bimal Majumdar, of Nadia’s Chuchuria village near Bethuadahari, in a “compromising position” with the 21-year-old girl on Monday. A shalishi attended by about 50 villagers ordered Majumdar, married with two grown-up daughters, to pay Rs 20,000 as fine for his “immoral act”. Majumdar’s wife found him hanging from a ceiling fan in his home this morning.
