Car battery thief netted

Bappa Das, 22, a resident of Dum Dum, was arrested on Friday morning after he was caught with a stolen car battery. According to police, Das had stolen the battery from a jeep belonging to the Airports Authority of India, parked near Gate No. 7 of the airport, early on Friday. He was netted by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel while trying to flee with the battery. The CISF jawans handed him over to airport police station.

Guard stabbed: Sheikh Jadu, 30, a mason who doubled as night watchman of a multi-storeyed building under construction,was stabbed by some miscreants at Hridaypur, in Barasat, on the northern fringes of the city, late on Thursday. According to police, trouble over supply of building materials between the contractor of the building and the few local youths might have led to the incident. No arrest has been made.

Arrests: The city police on Friday arrested 32 persons from different parts of the city for “disorderly conduct”.
