t2 screen awards’07

Chak De! SRK. Simply put, the King Khan has never looked or acted better in his 15-year-long innings on the big screen. After Chak De, even his biggest detractors are now the biggest fans of SHAH RUKH KHAN. No wonder he’s the Best Actor (by far) for 2007, with a whopping 69 per cent votes. As Kabir Khan, the coach of the national women’s team, SRK exuded star aura and yet was very much a man of flesh and blood. While on screen Khan single-handedly guided a bunch of 16 girls to the World Cup crown, off screen he won a whole new set of hearts and paved the way for his own six-packs production Om Shanti Om when it hits halls on November 9.

If Shah Rukh hadn’t Chak De-ed, no one could have possibly stolen the thunder of the Guru. But ABHISHEK BACHCHAN has to remain content with second spot, having garnered 19 per cent votes. With favourite Mani Sir in the director’s chair and bride-to-be Aishwarya by his side, Bachchan Jr did give one of his best performances till date, prompting a proud Bachchan Sr to give full-page advertisements in dailies throughout the country. What next AB Baby?

It was touted to be the performance of the year and honestly AKSHAYE KHANNA did not disappoint as Harilal in Gandhi My Father. Just that the level of performances around him — Darshan Zariwalla to Shefali Shah — were equally good (if not better) and he couldn’t stand out on his own. Yet, the 6.5 per cent of votes makes it clear that all of you who watched the film did take note of Akshaye’s undoubted talent. Hopefully, the response to this performance will make sure he does not do the Shaadi Se Pehles of the world!

IRRFAN lost the chance to run SRK and Abhi close as The Namesake was not able to make it to the list (on technical grounds of being an Indo-US co-production). But that did not stop him from making it to fourth spot for his brilliant Monty act in Life in a... Metro. Almost a cameo, Irrfan showed how much can be done with how little. As Konkona’s suitor, he was funny yet philosophical, sex-starved but endearing. Irrfan retains his loyalists who felt Monty was the best thing about Metro.

He has been good in all his recent movies, but in Namastey London AKSHAY KUMAR excelled as the romantic who wins, loses and finally wins Katrina Kaif. Akki continues to win fans with every film and remains the only serious non-Khan top draw.
