Mine arrest

Durgapur, Oct. 17: An Eastern Coalfields security officer was arrested from his official residence today in connection with the murder of assistant manager Amin Karmakar.

Sources said a preliminary probe suggests a nexus between Ram Sevak Mishra and coal smugglers that Karmakar had been resisting.

S.N. Upadhyay, the chief general manager of the ECL’s Kenda mining area, said: “Mishra is an honest officer.”

Karmakar was found in a paddy field with a bullet hole in his head yesterday.
