Eastern storm into qualifiers

Imphal, Oct. 8: Eastern Sporting Union has booked a berth in the qualifying rounds for the under-15 Manchester United Premier Cup slated to held in 2008 in England.

Eastern Sporting Union today beat Tiddim Road Athletic Union 10-0, thereby confirming their entry into the Indian qualifying rounds.

The All India Football Federation has not designated the venue for the meet.

The All Manipur Football Association has also recommended the Youth Organisation and Sporting Club, who came second, for the tournament.

The move has come in the wake of the federation intimating the association for fielding two teams from Manipur in the qualifying rounds.

This is the second time that Eastern Sporting Union has qualified for the tournament from Manipur. It had also qualified for the tournament last year but did not fare well in the matches in Mumbai.

Today, Raj Chauhan led the Eastern Sporting team to victory, firing five goals. H. Roshan and A. Rozio scored two goals each.

L. Gyaneshor scored the last goal for Eastern Sporting off solo efforts.

The Imphal East District Football Association girls blanked District Sports Association, Bishnupur 5-0 in the under-17 Women’s Inter District Football Tournament 2007 played at Mapal Kangjeibung stadium today.

W. Komlatabi Devi scored two goals for Imphal East while Reena Roy and Humabati Devi added one each. J.R. Jhanthangthei of Bishnupur added to the Imphal East tally by scoring a goal.
