Off to America

Bangla folk band Kaya is on a high these days. Ready to join the roster of Bangla bands who have become a part of Bengali festivities in the US, Kaya is ready to grace foreign shores for the first time. “We will be performing for the Bengali communities celebrating Durga Puja at various venues,” informs Arindam, the band’s bassist.

Kaya managed to impress singer Abhijeet during its performance at his well-known Lokhandwala puja in Mumbai last year. The tour offer was a step away.

The band is also set to launch its latest album Hashnuhana, which hits music stores today. Sticking to the formula that worked best for the band, this album is rooted in folk sounds, with a dash of reggae.

The seven-member band has drawn up an extensive roster of songs to charm American Bengalis missing the music back home as they take centrestage in the US. Apart from its originals like Shanana, Jigijagijang and Phaguner deshe, the band will also whip up a medley of 18 golden hits by Hemanta Kumar and Manna Dey for the NRI circuit.
