Hill death

Shimla, Sept. 30: Ashok Pal, a trekker from Baidyabati, Hooghly, has died because of lack of oxygen at 15,000 feet.

Pal, 53, was camping on the Bara Lacha mountain, 300km from here, with seven others from Bengal. The region is in the grip of severe cold these days.

Calcutta: The flood situation has improved across Bengal barring West Midnapore, the government said.

Power loot

Midnapore: Dacoits looted Rs 1.5 lakh from a state power board substation near here, about 130km from Calcutta. They tied up a dozen employees and fled.
