To salute the national language, which binds together a diverse country like India, September 14 is celebrated as Hindi Diwas. And like every year, this year too, the students of Birla High School (Girls’ Section) celebrated the day with a lot of enthusiasm. The highlight of the day was a drama competition involving the students from the four school houses — Mauryas, Kushans, Pallavas and Chalukyas. The Mauryas put up a play depicting the atrocities perpetrated by our policy makers. The Kushans portrayed the widespread corruption in the system while the Pallavas exposed the dual nature of politicians. The Chalukyas depicted the generation gap existing in our society. The Kushans emerged as the winners.

Media matters
A media workshop on sports journalism was held on September 12, 2007, in the memory of Mukul Dutta, a legendary sports journalist, at the Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club. Ashoke Dasgupta, editor of Aajkal, gave an introductory speech on Mukul Datta and opened the floor for an interactive session.
Sports journalists who have made their name in the field did a fantastic job of satisfying the audience’s queries.
Singer Rupam graced the occasion and delighted everyone with his rendition of Bho-kata. On the whole, it was an enriching experience and a day to remember.
