New Delhi, Sept. 24: Direct tax collections increased 40 per cent to Rs 1,06,095 crore till September 21, 2007, against Rs 75,510 crore during the same period last fiscal. Corporate tax grew 42.37 per cent to Rs 67,207 crore from Rs 47,207 crore in the year-ago period. Personal income tax grew 37.47 per cent to Rs 38,819 crore from Rs 28,238 crore last year.

Mumbai, Sept. 24: The government will borrow Rs 59,000 crore in the second half of the current fiscal through the issue of dated securities, according to an indicative calender issued today.

New Delhi, Sept. 24: The av Birla group has asked the Supreme Court to reject the petition of the Tatas on the dispute raised on the erstwhile joint venture mobile company, Idea. The Birla group said arbitration sought by the latter was contrary to the telecom policy and the laws in the country.
