38 die in rain

Hyderabad, Sept. 19 At least 38 people have died, 15 from lightning strikes, as torrential rain in the past 24 hours triggered flash floods in large swathes of Andhra Pradesh.

More than 50 irrigation tanks were breached and water flooded the Hyderabad-Warangal road and snapped links between the two cities. More rain is expected over the next 48 hours.

Squatters

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is for “third-degree” methods to evict squatters from government bungalows. Authorities should arrest squatters, withhold pensions and attach their properties to recover rent arrears from them, the apex court has said.

Siddhivinayak

Mumbai (PTI): Bombay High Court has suggested relocating the Siddhivinayak temple. The court’s suggestion came while hearing a PIL by residents of the Prabhadevi area, where the temple is located. The residents had objected to the security presence around the temple following fears of militant attacks.

Suicide

dore (PTI): A college student killed himself on Tuesday after he was allegedly ragged by seniors, police said. Durgesh Shukla, 23, said in his suicide note that he had lost self-confidence and was unhappy.

BMW case

New Delhi (PTI): The prosecution in the BMW hit-and-run case has said fingerprints from the car did not match those of prime accused Sanjeev Nanda. Nanda is accused of driving the car that mowed down six persons in 1999.
