Odyssey 07, held at Vidya Mandir Auditorium on August 18, 19 and 20, 2007, provided an unique platform for upcoming talent. Hosted by the Birla High School for Boys (Senior Section), 11 reputed Calcutta schools took part in the fest. The major off-stage events were bowling, cricket, face painting and hair styling. The on-stage events that saw maximum participation included choreography, fashion show, war of the DJ’s and the neon dance competition. It was exciting to see the profusion of talent on stage.
The highlight of the entire event was the guest performance by the Mumbai band Aasma. They enthralled the audience and had everyone swaying to the latest pop numbers. Birla High School for Boys were the overall winners but as per tradition, the winner’s trophy was passed on to South Point School, the first runners up. Yash Poddar, of Birla High School for Boys, was crowned the Star of Odyssey.

Talking point
Students of the journalism department at Manindra Chandra College launched their journal in style. Called Ashangbadik, the journal includes discussion on various issues and interviews of eminent city personalities. Whether it is the local MLA or a Tollywood star, all of them held forth on different topics. What’s noteworthy is that the entire journal is a students’ initiative. Right from coming up with ideas to page making to proofing, everything is taken care of by the students of the journalism department.

ASANSOL
To Sir, with love
The Teacher’s Day programme organised by Asansol Engineering College (AEC), Asansol, proved to be a great success. The proceedings were kicked off by a short speech by the principal, which was followed by a quiz competition and a cricket match between the students and teachers. However, the fun didn’t end there as the latest Bengali and Hindi songs were played and everyone trooped in to shake a leg. The day ended with sweets and mementoes being given out to teachers.
