Calcutta, Sept. 8: Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today rued that Bengal had failed to attain total literacy.

“Why should Kerala be ahead of us'” he said at Rabindra Sadan on the occasion of International Literacy Day.

“We must shift our attention from nuclear weapons because that is not the criterion to decide a nation’s strength. We must ensure that the people are educated.”
